Troubleshoot Connecting To Brown's Wireless Network on Linux

Linux is not officially supported due to the impersistent nature of it's environment due to changes made by its users. Even with these settings being correct, you may have issues connecting.  


Configuring for Ubuntu/Fedora: These Linux distributions should be supported with XpressConnect, which you can run by going to wifi.brown.edu - If issues arise you can attempt the following instructions. 


 
Certificate

There is a .pem necessary for setting up the connection in the network manager. The location of the file is below:

/etc/ssl/certs/AddTrust_External_Root.pem

 


 
Configuration Settings

There will be different ways to setup the network profile for Brown due to different distributions using different GUIs to do it. The settings in the network manager should match the settings below. 

Wireless Network Name (SSID): Brown
Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption Type: AES (CCMP)
EAP Method: PEAP
Phase 2 (Inner Method): EAP-MSCHAPV2
Root CA Certificate(s): AddTrust_External_Root.pem
User Certificate: N/A
Anonymous Identity (Outer Identity): [Leave blank]
Username (Identity): [Your Brown Username]
Password: [Your Password] 

*For the CA Certificate, you will have to navigate to the location listed above.

If you're having issues connecting, confirm the your credentials work within MyAccount.
